The seabass stock is under pressure. Therefore special restrictions apply to this species.
Recreational fishing
Europe and the United Kingdom reached an agreement in June on fisheries rights after Brexit. For recreational fishing there is a bag limit of 2 fish per day. The minimum size is 42 cm. These rules apply until November 2021.

Commercial fishing
Bycatch quotas for trawl fisheries were increased by 50% in the second half of 2021. That relaxation was not extended to recreational fishing. Seabass remains an important species for recreational anglers; over 40% catch seabass.
An angling survey by Kantar, conducted for Sportvisunie, shows this is of essential importance to about 200,000 recreational anglers. As last year, set-net fishers may only land unavoidable bycatches of seabass.
