Night Fishing and Third Rod

In many Dutch waters you are allowed to fish at night throughout the year. In addition to the VISpas you need the NightVIS permission for this. If you want to fish with three rods, purchase the Third Rod permission. You can order both permissions online: https://www.sportvisserijnederland.nl/vispas/nachtvis-derde-hengeltoestemming/

Both permissions consist of a hologram sticker. Stick it on the back of your VISpas. If you want both permissions, choose the combo hologram sticker.

The NightVIS permission and Third Rod permission are valid for the entire calendar year. They are strictly personal. If you have multiple VISpassen, you only need to purchase the permission once. In the Joint List of Dutch VIS Waters and in the VISplanner you can see with symbols where both permissions are valid.

Night fishing

Night fishing is allowed in waters with this symbol:

We define night fishing as the period from two hours after sunset until one hour before sunrise. Different rules may apply in nature reserves. Check those in advance.

Your Youth VISpas also grants the right to night fish with the NightVIS permission. If you are younger than 16, you may only night fish under the supervision of someone who is at least 16 years old.

Shelters and tents

The municipality regulates in the General Local Ordinance (APV) whether you may use a tent or other shelter. If the APV allows the use of a tent, the fishing rights holder may impose additional conditions in the written permission.

In the Joint List of Dutch VIS Waters we mark waters where shelters are allowed with this symbol:

. If a water does not have this symbol, consult the APV or the angling association. Associations may issue separate permissions for their members. If a water is listed in the association list and nothing is stated about night fishing, then you may night fish.

Third rod

The Joint List of Dutch VIS Waters also shows whether you are allowed to fish with a third rod. If you see this symbol:

, you may fish with a third rod provided you have the VISpas and the Third Rod permission.

Start fishing immediately

You order the NightVIS and/or Third Rod permission via www.vispas.nl. You add the permission to your current VISpas. After ordering you immediately receive a provisional digital permission. With that download or printout, the VISplanner app (first create an account via www.mijnsportvisserij.nl and link your VISpas), or with the Joint List of Dutch VIS Waters and your VISpas you may start fishing right away.

You will receive the definitive sticker by post within three weeks. Stick this on the back of your VISpas. If you provide an authorization when ordering, you will receive the permission automatically for the next fishing year.
